Bodrum
is the next large town on the coast and has a special
magic from which it is difficult to break away. You
can visit the Castle of St. Peter with it's Museum of
Underwater Arheology, the Mausoleum, one of the seven
wonders of the ancient world, and the amphitheatre overlooking
the harbour. The waterfront bars and restaurants look
out to the castle where you can watch the world go by
after a successful shopping expedition. Bodrum is at
the head of the Gulf of Gökova, again you could spend
a week at least just exploring this area. Every bay
has its own special charm; Çökertme for its friendly
rivalry between the two restaurants ashore and the antics
of their owners, and Cleopatra's Island because of its
sand which supposedly came all the way from Egypt, a
gift from her lover Mark Anthoney. English Harbour is
sleepy and serene and Sögüt is idyllic with its wooden
jetty and simple restaurants.
