Knidos
is the place to anchor before entering the Gulf of Hisarönü
and making your way to Marmaris. The ruins of the ancient
city stand on the hillside looking down into the harbour
and across to the Greek Islands of Kos and Niseros.
You can see the layout of the city from two theatres,
a temple and the city walls. In the Gulf itself the
town of Datça is charming, it is small but can become
quite lively on the waterfront in the evenings and its
shops have a very good collection of carpets, kilims
and jewellery. From here you will almost certainly call
in at Loryma, probably for lunch and a swim and visit
the ruins of the ancient citadel at the entrance to
the bay. |
